The Sheriff of Geneva County, Alabama, Tony Helms, encouraged law abiding citizens in his county to carry a weapon in order to protect themselves and others.

Citizens of Geneva County
Today we live in a troubling world. A world where the majority of our elected officials are too busy making decisions for us without asking us what we want. We have taken God out of our lives and are more worried about what is politically correct than what is morally right. We aren’t in Mayberry anymore. Andy Griffith’s time has passed; even though it would be great to have that time back. If we don’t pay attention to what is going on around us, get involved in our children’s lives, then we don’t have a chance.
Overall you have a very dedicated group of law enforcement officers in this county. We may not be perfect, but we do the best we can with what little we have. The court system is hindered by those who have decided we don’t need to send criminals to prison, and that we need to release the ones we have in there. They say we have to raise taxes to build more prisons; and no one wants to pay more taxes because we don’t trust what those politicians will do with those taxes. If you take into account all full time certified Law Enforcement officers; state, county and city in this county, it would equal to one officer for about 550 people. The officers are never all on duty at the same time so most of the time it is 1 per every 1000.
I tell you this so you will understand that as the Sheriff of Geneva County, I urge all Law Abiding citizens if you can LAWFULLY carry a weapon, do so. Do not allow you or someone you love to become a victim. I believe all good Law Abiding Citizens should have a firearm, ammunition and be proficient in its use.

Sheriff Helms is fulfilling his role as a ruler appointed by God to punish evil-doers and to serve those who do good as explained in Romans 13. As he explained in his post, a law enforcement officer cannot be present everywhere which necessitates that citizens be able to defend themselves. By encourage law abiding citizens to arm themselves and be proficient in the use of their firearms he is repeating the same principle Jesus taught in Luke 22:36. Jesus told his disciples to buy a sword if they did not have one. Jesus elevated the importance of having a means of self-defense to say that if you do not have enough money to buy a weapon you should sell your cloak in order to buy one.
Then said he unto them, But now, he that hath a purse, let him take it, and likewise his scrip: and he that hath no sword, let him sell his garment, and buy one. Luke 22:36
The Word of God also commands us in the 6th commandment, “Thou shalt not murder” Exodus 20:13. Thus, we are commanded to protect our own life and the lives of others when possible.
Sheriff Helms correctly identifies the source of our problems we he says that we as a nation “have taken God out of our lives and are more worried about what is politically correct than what is morally right.” We are seeing the blessings of God for obeying His covenant disappear from us while we see the curses for breaking the covenant begin to spread. God explained the blessings for obedience to His Covenant and the curses that we would experience for breaking His covenant in Deuteronomy 28.
And it shall come to pass, if thou shalt hearken diligently unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to observe and to do all his commandments which I command thee this day, that the LORD thy God will set thee on high above all nations of the earth: And all these blessings shall come on thee, and overtake thee, if thou shalt hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God. Deuteronomy 28:1-2
But it shall come to pass, if thou wilt not hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to observe to do all his commandments and his statutes which I command thee this day; that all these curses shall come upon thee, and overtake thee: Deuteronomy 28:15
One of those curses is to have foreigners rule over us. Barrack Hussein Obama is a fulfillment of that curse as are also any Moslems elected to office.
The stranger that is within thee shall get up above thee very high; and thou shalt come down very low. Deuteronomy 28:43
The Moslem invasion we are experiencing is a direct fulfillment of God’s curse to bring a foreign nation against us to terrorize us and kill us.
The LORD shall bring a nation against thee from far, from the end of the earth, as swift as the eagle flieth; a nation whose tongue thou shalt not understand; A nation of fierce countenance, which shall not regard the person of the old, nor show favor to the young: And he shall eat the fruit of thy cattle, and the fruit of thy land, until thou be destroyed: which also shall not leave thee either corn, wine, or oil, or the increase of thy kine, or flocks of thy sheep, until he have destroyed thee. And he shall besiege thee in all thy gates, until thy high and fenced walls come down, wherein thou trustedst, throughout all thy land: and he shall besiege thee in all thy gates throughout all thy land, which the LORD thy God hath given thee. Deuteronomy 28:49-52
Thus, America must repent in order to remove the judgment of God against our nation and restore the blessings for keeping God’s Covenant. Only when America repents will God remove from our midst the worshippers of false gods such as the Moslems and those committing artolatry who have been sent here to oppress us.
